Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce has exited the team’s Week 15 matchup against Denver and is being evaluated for a concussion.
Update: Pierce has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
The injury occurred in the final minute of the second quarter when Anthony Richardson targeted Pierce in the left corner of the end zone and in going up for the ball, he came down hard on his right side/back.
Pierce would walk off under his own power and headed to the locker room.
This season, Pierce has emerged as one of the NFL’s most productive downfield pass catchers. Overall, he has caught 29 passes for 645 yards, averaging a whopping 22.2 yards per catch with five touchdowns.
Without Pierce on the field, rookie AD Mitchell will be tasked with taking on a much larger role on offense.
Mitchell has caught 20-of-42 passes this season for 254 yards. The Colts are already a bit short-handed at receiver with Ashton Dulin being ruled out this past Friday as he works through an ankle injury.
