At some point this week, the Indianapolis Colts will likely have to sign Mark Glowinski from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
The Colts signed Glowinski to the practice squad on November 21st. Then, roughly 10 days later against New England in Week 13, Glowinski became the team’s starting right guard with rookie Dalton Tucker struggling.
Glowinski has continued to be the starting right guard over the last three games, but he has remained on the practice squad. Each of these last three Sundays, Glowinski has been one of the Colts’ two practice squad elevations, which makes him available on gamedays.
However, per the NFLPA rules, practice squad players can only be elevated from the practice squad to the gameday roster up to three times during the NFL season. After that point, which Glowinksi is now at, if the team wants that player available on Sundays, he has to be signed to the 53-man roster.
Since joining the starting lineup, the Colts have found more success in the run game these last three weeks with Glowinski at right guard. However, by PFF’s metrics, Glowinski has taken some lumps in pass protection, allowing 11 pressures and two sacks over this three game span.
It looks like the Colts have already begun preparing for this move after they announced on Monday that they’ve released guard Atonio Mafi, which opens up a roster spot on the 53-man.
