The Indianapolis Colts waived 2020 fourth-round pick Jacob Eason on Tuesday to make room for rookie quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who was activated from the injured reserve list.
Eason is subject to waivers, which means any team can put a claim in on him. However if Eason winds up clearing waivers, the Colts want to re-sign him to the practice squad, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic.
Colts definitely have interest in bringing QB Jacob Eason back to the practice squad, per source.

Eason has the arm talent that will intrigue teams who want a pocket passer but he hasn’t shown all that much in the way of being a viable starter. Has he truly gotten a chance to show his skills? Not really. But the fact that the Colts felt more comfortable rolling with Brett Hundley in a spot start situation shows how they feel about his development.
Rarely do fourth-round quarterbacks pan out so this isn’t all that shocking. Given that Ehlinger’s skill set is more like Carson Wentz’s and the constant talk about the rookie having the it factor, this was always going to be the move.
Now, we have to wait and see whether Eason gets claimed by another team.
