Following the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 16 win over the Tennessee Titans, Pro Football Focus has tallied the team’s snap count figures from Sunday’s game.
So, what stood out playing time-wise on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball?
For the most part, this late into the season there aren’t a lot of surprises when it comes to these snap count figures. At this stage of the game, we generally know each player’s role within the offensive and defensive gameplans.
But having said that, each week, there are a few noteworthy observations to make.
With help from PFF, here are the Colts’ snap count figures from Week 16, along with some quick notes.
Colts Offense
Mark Glowinski | 62 |
Ryan Kelly | 62 |
Bernhard Raimann | 62 |
Matt Goncalves | 62 |
Anthony Richardson | 62 |
Michael Pittman Jr. | 61 |
Quenton Nelson | 60 |
Adonai Mitchell | 55 |
Jonathan Taylor | 47 |
Josh Downs | 36 |
Andrew Ogletree | 35 |
Mo Alie-Cox | 30 |
Kylen Granson | 19 |
Trey Sermon | 9 |
Ashton Dulin | 9 |
Tyler Goodson | 6 |
Will Mallory | 3 |
Tanor Bortolini | 2 |
Quick notes:
– Without Alec Pierce, as expected, AD Mitchell slid into that X receiver role opposite of Michael Pittman. Perhaps it was because this was Ashton Dulin’s first game back from injury, but Mitchell dominated the playing time between those two, which hasn’t often been the case this season. When Mitchell has been tasked with filling this specific X receiver role, he’s found success in doing so. This includes a six reception 71 yard performance against Buffalo, along with coming down with a 36 yard reception versus Tennessee.
– This more so pertains to next week, but this was Mark Glowinski’s third and final practice squad elevation. So if the Colts want him available on gamedays moving forward, he will have to be added to the 53-man roster.
– A trend? In three of the last four games, Drew Ogletree has out-snapped Mo Alie-Cox.
Colts Defense
Julian Blackmon | 61 |
Zaire Franklin | 61 |
Nick Cross | 61 |
Kenny Moore II | 60 |
Jaylon Carlies | 60 |
Jaylon Jones | 51 |
DeForest Buckner | 48 |
Samuel Womack III | 45 |
Laiatu Latu | 39 |
Grover Stewart | 36 |
Kwity Paye | 33 |
Dayo Odeyingbo | 33 |
Tyquan Lewis | 28 |
Grant Stuard | 16 |
Taven Bryan | 14 |
Raekwon Davis | 13 |
David Long Jr. | 9 |
Ronnie Harrison | 1 |
Cameron McGrone | 1 |
Rodney Thomas II | 1 |
Quick notes:
– As we point out each week, the snap count totals between Sam Womack and Grant Stuard tell us how often the Colts were lined up in nickel versus their base 4-3 defense. With the Titans trailing and passing a lot, the Colts played a heavy amount of nickel.
– In a similar regard, because the Titans had to become one-dimensional and pass heavy. that meant we saw a lot of Laiatu Latu, who out-snapped Dayo Odeyingbo.
– With Jaylon Jones exiting the game in the fourth quarter, the Colts leaned on David Long Jr. to line up opposite of Womack. Cornerback depth is not something this defense has a lot of. We will await updates on Jones along with seeing whether or not JuJu Brents could return this week.
– As expected, without EJ Speed, Jaylon Carlies, in his return from IR, slid back into that starting linebacker role next to Zaire Franklin. He’s been quite good this season at limiting YAC with that coverage ability he brings to the position.
