Colts’ training camp roster preview: OL Arlington Hambright

Up next in our Colts’ training camp roster preview is OL Arlington Hambright. Here is a look back at 2023 and what’s ahead in 2024.

Veterans and rookies for the Indianapolis Colts will report for training camp on July 24th, with the first practice taking place on July 25th.

Between now and then I will be previewing the Colts’ 91-man roster with a look back at each player’s 2023 season, along with what’s ahead for 2024.

I’ll be going through the Colts’ roster alphabetically, so up next is offensive lineman Arlington Hambright. To stay up to date with our other previews, be sure to head over to Colts Wire.

2023 Season Review

Hambright was a part of the Colts’ practice squad in 2022 and spent time on the team’s active roster and practice squad in 2023. Hambright appeared in two games on offense, playing six total snaps at left tackle.

Prior to joining the Colts in 2022, Hambright spent that offseason with New England, and in 2021, he spent time on Chicago’s practice squad and active roster. Hambright was a 2020 seventh-round pick by the Bears, playing 82 snaps that season at left guard and another 44 on special teams.

2024 Season Preview

With the additions of Matt Goncalves and Tonor Bortolini in the draft, the Colts’ offensive line room just got a bit more crowded. The Colts like Bortolini’s ability to play all three interior positions, while they also believe Goncalves can play guard in addition to tackle.

This leaves one or perhaps two roster spots up for grabs, with the Colts’ starting five, Bortolini, Goncalves, and Blake Freeland accounting for eight spots onthe depth chart.

Competing with Hamright will be Wesley French, Jake Witt, Danny Pinter, and Josh Sills. As the Colts build out their 2024 offensive line room, versatility is an important factor.

“You’re dressing 48 guys, eight linemen. If you draft an offensive lineman, to just play one position, unless you’re the starter makes it very difficult,” said GM Chris Ballard about the offensive line. “You need to have a guy that can play both tackle spots, a guy that can play both guard spots and swing. And really, two more guys that can snap the football.

“I think it’s the same thing in any position – you’ve got to have some versatility to be able to play multiple spots. We kind of try to do that as much as we can every year.”
