Remember when the Indianapolis Colts traded center/guard Evan Boehm to the Miami Dolphins for an undisclosed pick before the 2019 season? That traded wound up becoming a sixth-round pick for the Colts in the 2020 NFL draft.
An easily forgotten trade, the Colts and Dolphins swapped conditional picks. The Colts sent over Boehm and an undisclosed conditional pick to the Dolphins for an undisclosed conditional pick. It seems those conditions were met and the Colts would take the higher of the picks. It resulted in the Colts getting the No. 197 overall pick rather than the No. 227 overall pick, which the Dolphins currently have.
The Colts officially have eight picks in the draft and is have been confirmed that they lost the sixth-round pick in the conditional trade with the New York Jets—the one that included cornerback Nate Hairston. Essentially the Colts lost that draft pick because Hairston wasn’t active enough times during the season and with the way the conditions worked, the Colts weren’t compensated.
Regardless, the Colts officially have eight picks with none of them coming in the seventh round and three of which are in the top-45.
