Colts trade up for QB Bryce Young in latest Draft Wire mock

In Draft Wire’s latest mock draft, the Colts moved up to No. 1 for QB Bryce Young.

The offseason for the Indianapolis Colts will feature several storylines, and the one that dominates the rest of them will be what they do at the quarterback position.

At this early point in the offseason, all signs point to the Colts going with a quarterback in the 2023 NFL draft. Whether they move up to the No. 1 overall pick is the biggest question.

In Draft Wire’s latest mock draft, they made that move to the first overall pick to select Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.

“Now that the Bears have the No. 1 pick, they can either stay put and take one of the two defensive prospects worthy of this spot, or auction it off to the highest bidder who wants to move up for a quarterback. The Colts make the most sense as a trade partner, jumping ahead of the division-rival Texans to land the top passer in the draft. It’s likely to cost them a couple of future first-round picks, as well as their second-rounder in this year’s draft, and maybe more.”

Young seems to be the consensus top quarterback option. He’s an electric playmaker, especially out of structure, but his size is going to be a major concern for a lot of teams.

It wouldn’t be surprising if there’s a bidding war for the No. 1 overall pick. The Colts likely need to move up if they want to secure the quarterback they believe in. The same goes for the Houston Texans, who hold the No. 2 overall pick.

Meanwhile, there are some wild cards. The Arizona Cardinals (No. 3 overall) shouldn’t need a quarterback even with Kyler Murray on the mend.

And though the Seattle Seahawks (No. 5 overall) and Detroit Lions (No. 6 overall) don’t necessarily need to draft a quarterback, it can’t be dismissed out of hand that they won’t move up to No. 3 in a trade. The Las Vegas Raiders No. 7 overall) also are on quarterback watch.

The Colts first need to find their next head coach and figure out what to do with the current quarterback room, but Young is likely on their board as a potential option in the draft.
