The Indianapolis Colts are working out former Chicago Bears kicker Eddy Pineiro on Tuesday, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
General manager Chris Ballard has constantly preached having competition at every position. That doesn’t exclude the kicker spot either even with Rodrigo Blankenship just entering his second season.

Pineiro, 25, initially signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2018 as an undrafted rookie free agent but spent the season on the injured reserve list. He was then traded to the Bears during the 2019 offseason for a seventh-round pick.
Pineiro appeared in one season with the Bears in 2019. He converted 23-of-28 field-goal attempts (82.1%) and 27-of-29 extra-point attempts (93.1%). He was 2-of-2 from over 50 yards.
Pineiro spent the 2020 season on the injured reserve list due to a groin injury he suffered during the preseason.
The Colts currently have Blankenship on the roster after he was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2020. He showed promise but his struggles with deep kicks proved costly throughout the regular season, and his missed field goal in the playoff game against the Buffalo Bills, among other things, helped lead to a 27-24 loss.
It will be interesting to see if the Colts bring in Pineiro as competition for Blankenship so this will be something to monitor.
