Colts take WR Marquise Brown in 2019 redraft

In an alternate timeline, the Colts selected WR Marquise Brown in the 2019 NFL draft.

What might have happened if the Indianapolis Colts kept their first-round pick during the 2019 NFL draft?

Even though they wound up trading the No. 26 overall selection to Washington on draft night, Pro Football Focus had them keep the pick in their redraft of the 2019 class.

In that redraft, the Colts wound up taking wide receiver Marquise Brown, who was initially selected the pick prior by the Baltimore Ravens in the actual draft.

“26. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: WR MARQUISE BROWN
Actual pick: EDGE Montez Sweat (to Washington Commanders)

With Brown still on the board, and with the Colts still having this pick, he would be a fun addition to the team. The Colts took Parris Campbell later in this draft, but injuries have kept them from seeing much of the speed they desired from him. Brown could have given Indianapolis that speed element with more reliability.”

Holding onto this pick obviously would create an alternate timeline that would make Kevin Feige interested in doing a limited series. When the Colts made this trade initially, they moved back 20 spots to No. 46 overall while adding a 2020 second-round pick.

That 2020 pick turned into Michael Pittman Jr., who has emerged as one of the top young wideouts in the game.

But I digress. We probably don’t need a whole lecture on the timeline implications of this redraft. Probably.

The speedy Brown has certainly had his moments since entering the league. Though he’s been plagued by concentration drops, he’s been a solid wideout. Brown is coming off of a career year in 2021 where he posted 91 receptions for 1,008 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

The Colts would likely still prefer to have Pittman Jr. even if it does come with the selection of Ben Banogu, who has yet to break out after being drafted with the pick the Colts received in the original trade with Washington.
