At the beginning of the offseason, the Indianapolis Colts had a lot of question marks but some of those were answered after they spent big during the initial free agency period in March.
When the offseason began, USA TODAY had the Colts sitting at No. 24 in their power rankings. After making some big moves, they surged all the way up to No. 7 in their post-free agency power rankings.
Arguably free agency’s winners after landing Buckner, CB Xavier Rhodes and QB Philip Rivers, who’s mastered this offense under Frank Reich and OC Nick Sirianni before and should execute it at high level behind elite offensive line.
In the division, the Titans (No. 3) led the way followed by the Colts (No. 7), the Texans (No. 21) and the Jaguars (No. 32)
The Colts improved arguably their biggest need at the three-technique by trading for DeForest Buckner. He will provide them with an elite talent in the B-gap and should solidify the entire front seven both with his production and the attention he commands from opposing offensive lines.
The addition of Rivers should pay off for the Colts in some way. His best days are clearly behind him but if he can tone down some of the interceptions and provide the Colts with an aggressive mindset, the offense should see major improvements.
The draft is still scheduled for April 23, and the Colts are looking to get better from there. They need to add to the wide receiver corps, but the arrow is pointing up again for the horseshoe.
