The Indianapolis Colts are known for having big draft classes, which means there are typically a few who don’t get their rookie deals signed before the summer arrives.
The Colts have had all but two of their draft picks from the 2020 NFL Draft put the pen to paper on their rookie deals. The only two that haven’t yet are second-round wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and third-round safety Julian Blackmon.
This isn’t a concern for the Colts at all. Sometimes the language of the contract gets put under the microscope and it can lead to a delay in the contract getting signed.
In addition, this hasn’t exactly been a normal offseason so that is certainly a factor in the delays.
Pittman Jr. was selected with the No. 34 overall pick and has been touted as one of the favorites of the class by the Colts. He checks nearly every box they have for rookies and his fit as the X receiver for Philip Rivers should result in an immediate impact.
Blackmon won’t be making an impact on the field until at least halfway through the season. The Colts aren’t expected to lean on him much as he recovers from ACL surgery after he went down with the injury in December.
It’s only a matter of time before these deals get done and this isn’t a concern but something noteworthy to keep an eye on during the offseason.
