Colts’ Shaquille Leonard, E.J. Speed progressing through protocol

Shaquille Leonard and E.J. Speed appear to be progressing through the concussion protocol.

Indianapolis Colts linebackers Shaquille Leonard and E.J. Speed are progressing through the concussion protocol entering the first week of the regular season.

While we won’t get the first injury report until Wednesday, the Colts had practice Thursday and several members of the media mentioned that both Leonard and Speed were no longer wearing the red non-contact jerseys.

That’s typically one of the final stages of the concussion protocol so it appears they’re making progress. They both will still need to be cleared by an independent neurologist so that will be something to monitor when they return to practice next week.

Leonard has been a positive storyline during the preseason, but he was held out of the final two preseason games due to a concussion he suffered during the joint practices with the Chicago Bears.

Speed came out with delayed symptoms following the preseason finale, but it appears both players are making solid progress.

We should get our first update either Tuesday or Wednesday before the Colts host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 1.
