In the latest mock draft from CBS Sports, the Indianapolis Colts selected former Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney with the No. 21 overall pick.
Here’s what Pete Prisco of CBS Sports had to say about the pick:
They need to get more explosive outside in the passing game. T.Y. Hilton is a free agent. Even if he were to come back, they need hep. Toney is a tough, inside playmaker.
Taking Toney over Minnesota’s Rashod Batemen, who went to the Packers at No. 30, is a bold move. Though Toney was a standout at the Senior Bowl, Bateman has all the makings of being an alpha-type wide receiver.
That said, Toney’s game works for the Colts as well. He has strong hands and is explosive and elusive after the catch. Given how much the Colts target players with YAC ability, Toney is certainly a fit.
Wide receiver is a big need for the Colts this offseason. They need to surround Carson Wentz with as much talent as possible and even though it’s unlikely that Chris Ballard spends the No. 21 pick on a wideout, Toney would be a solid fit.
Toney would be a solid fit for the Colts but passing up on Bateman would not sit well with the fanbase.
