In Draft Wire’s latest mock draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected former Oklahoma State offensive tackle Teven Jenkins with the No. 21 overall pick.
Jenkins, who appears to be high on the Colts’ draft board, would fit in right as the starting left tackle to replace longtime starter Anthony Castonzo, who retired after 10 seasons in the league this offseason.
The retirement of Anthony Castonzo made left tackle the clear-cut top need for the Colts heading into this draft, and thankfully for them, this year’s class is extremely deep. That should allow them to have their pick of multiple starting-caliber prospects even at this point in the first round, and Jenkins has all the tools to step in immediately and protect Carson Wentz.
The Colts have a need to address the offensive line and with such a strong class, it should be expected that the position will be high on the draft board for Chris Ballard. This is especially true considering how much they want to invest in the offensive line.
Jenkins plays with power and moves well enough to be a fit for the Colts’ versatile blocking scheme. He would be a strong fit next to left guard Quenton Nelson while the Colts work on his ability to handle speed rushers.
The edge rush is the biggest need for the Colts but it wouldn’t at all be a surprise if they used that first-round pick on a left tackle.
