The Indianapolis Colts have some big needs to address this offseason, especially when it comes to adding a presence at the edge rusher position along the defensive line.
While the Colts should be active in the options available in free agency, we know they like to build the defensive line through the draft as well. This could lead them to using the No. 21 overall pick in the draft to address this need.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com released his first mock draft of the offseason, and the Colts did just that.
The Colts could go with a cornerback here, but they covet elite length and explosiveness off the edge. Oweh might be too tempting to pass on despite his need for pass-rush polish.
In this mock draft, four quarterbacks went ahead of the Colts. Justin Fields fell all the way to No. 15 and the Lions didn’t take a quarterback at No. 7 overall. This would likely result in the Colts trading up for Fields or Trey Lance, who went No. 12 in this mock.
Oweh failed to record a sack in seven games during the 2020 season but he did record a career-high in tackles for loss. He’s cited as having elite athleticism to go along with intriguing arm length—two aspects the Colts covet.
It will be interesting to see what the Colts would do in this situation where a pair of quarterbacks fall but we won’t get that answer for a few months.
