The Indianapolis Colts have begun trimming their roster as they work to get down to 53 players before the deadline Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
There were some initial moves made Sunday as the front office began its process of waiving and releasing players. It’s expected the Colts will continue to make moves throughout Monday and Tuesday.
Keep in mind the different verbiage when a player is let go as well. A released player is a vested veteran—those who have accrued four seasons in the NFL. They immediately become free agents. A waived player has not accrued four seasons and must go through waivers. All other teams will have a chance to claim waived players on their 53-man roster by 12:00 p.m. ET on Aug. 30.
The Colts are fourth in the waiver order so it’s very likely that big changes will come to the initial 53-man roster the day after cuts are made.
