The Indianapolis Colts removed safety Julian Blackmon from the active/Non-football injury list, the team announced Monday.
Still working his way back from a torn ACL he suffered in December while playing in his final season at Utah, Blackmon opened camp on the NFI list.
The rookie safety can now begin practicing and will be officially added to the active roster. He still counted toward the 80-man roster while on the NFI list but now he’s officially back on the active roster.
The Colts will still take it slow with Blackmon’s recovery. They don’t need him to start right away given the depth they have with Malik Hooker, Khari Willis, George Odum and Tavon Wilson. But they will begin getting him used to life in the NFL.
The third-round pick will be working his way up the depth chart as the season approaches and the Colts are hoping he makes an impact sometime in October.
