While the Jacksonville Jaguars started the offseason preaching competition at the quarterback position, the feeling around the league is that Nick Foles will be traded before the regular season. With those speculations, SportsLine has gotten involved in the situation by compiling some odds of where the veteran could end up.
With Foles having a connection with Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich (his former coordinator in Philly), the Jags’ divisional rivals currently have the lead with odds of 3/1 (+300).
If the Jaguars trade Nick Foles, which team will he be playing for Week 1 of the 2020 season?
Colts +300
Bears +500
Patriots +700
Titans +900
Bucs +1200
Eagles +2000https://t.co/oSemzLKeIz pic.twitter.com/8oJ4ryDQuB— SportsLine (@SportsLine) March 4, 2020
Of the destinations that are possible for Foles, we agree here at the Jaguars Wire that Indy makes the most sense. Both Jags Wire contributor Phil Smith and I discussed this matter on our second and fifth episodes of “Bleav In the Jags.” In a nutshell, we basically speculated that the Jags will probably look to cover a bulk of his 2020 salary and won’t ask for much in return from the Colts. That said, the Colts probably wouldn’t hesitate to reunite Foles with Reich but ultimately time will tell.
As for the Chicago Bears and their odds of 5/1, it makes sense because they have former Jags coordinator John DeFilippo on their staff as the quarterbacks coach. DeFilippo was the Jags’ coordinator for the full 2019 season and his signing was a big deal because he was going to be tasked with building an offensive scheme around Foles like the one he had when the two worked for the Philadelphia Eagles. Ultimately, that didn’t work out and the Jags and DeFilippo mutually parted ways in January.
When looking at the rest of the teams listed, the New England Patriots make sense because it feels like Tom Brady won’t be returning. That said, they may be intrigued by the quarterback who beat them in Super Bowl LII.
The Tennessee Titans, on the other hand, don’t make a lot of sense because they would just be better off bringing back Ryan Tannehill if they can’t bring in Brady. As for the Tampa Bay Bucs, they make sense because it was reported by NBC’s Peter King that the two sides “likely” won’t be together in 2020.
Lastly, going back to the Eagles would make Foles a backup again under Carson Wentz. Whether he’d like that or not is unknown, but at least the fanbase would welcome him with open arms.
