Colts’ QB attention ‘focused on the draft’

The Colts are turning their QB focus to the draft.

While the Indianapolis Colts have been linked as potential suitors for the Lamar Jackson sweepstakes, it seems their attention is solely focused more toward the 2023 NFL draft.

Even though the team wouldn’t come out and publicly say they’re going after Jackson because they’d lose leverage in negotiations, head coach Shane Steichen made it pretty clear Wednesday that their focus is on the upcoming draft.

“Yeah, we’re focused on the draft and I’m going to focus on the guys that are in the building right now. That’s where we’re at,” Steichen told reporters at the offseason workouts.

The talk of the offseason has been surrounding the Colts’ likelihood of selecting a quarterback in the draft, which is officially two weeks away as of this writing.

They’ve been busy working out and hosting the majority of quarterback prospects in this year’s class as they work to finalize their big board ahead of the draft.

“Yeah, we’re still going through that process. We’re 15 days away from the draft, and still working through all those things,” Steichen said.

The Colts still could be looking to keep Jackson as a possibility on the back burner in case the draft doesn’t go the way they planned. There’s a slim chance that happens, but at least then they wouldn’t have to part ways with the No. 4 overall pick.

We’ll see what happens in two weeks when the draft gets underway, but it seems we shouldn’t expect anything to happen on the Jackson front when it comes to the Colts’ involvement.
