Cornerback was considered a big need this past offseason, however, GM Chris Ballard would stay put with the young group–plus Kenny Moore–that he already had on the roster.
Like any young players, development was needed, and Ballard was banking on Jaylon Jones and JuJu Brents making those Year 2 leaps that so many successful NFL players make.
It was a risky move, and not that things have been perfect, but there has been more stability at this position this season than what may have been anticipated from the outside looking in.
Unfortunately, Brents has been injured reserve since early on in the year, but Jones has made big strides in his second season. Ballard also hit a home on the waiver wire before the season began claiming Samuel Womack, who has had very good on-ball production.
The trio of Jones, Womack, and Moore in 2025 coupled with the return eventual return of Brents is a strong foundation at the position. But with that said, bolstering the depth will be a must–this is a very thin position group for the Colts currently–and added competition is never a bad thing.
While there has been promising play from Jones and Womack, the Colts are still surrendering 7.1 yards per attempt this season, which ranks 26th in the NFL.
So with all of that said, let’s take a look at Trevor Sikkema’s top tight ends in the 2025 draft class. In parenthesis is the player’s overall ranking on Sikkema’s big board.
