The Indianapolis Colts were heavy favorites on the road in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars but failed to come out with a win, resulting in a plummet with their standing in the power rankings.
Despite being a top-10 team in Touchdown Wire’s power rankings for Week 1, the Colts fell all the way down to No. 25 following the divisional loss on Sunday.

When the Colts signed Philip Rivers to a one-year, $25 million contract in March, the hope was that reuniting Rivers with head coach and former Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich would save Rivers from the worst versions of himself. But it was Rivers who threw a game-killing interception with less than five minutes left in what became a 27-20 win for a Jaguars team that is frantically trying to rid itself of all its best veterans, it played to type. Last season, Rivers threw seven interceptions in the last five minutes of games and six in the last two minutes of games, the most in the league in either category. As the great Maya Angelou once said, when someone tells you who they are, believe them the first time.
It wasn’t the best showing for the Colts, who are undoubtedly more talented than the Jaguars on paper. But that’s why the game is played. The offense looked strong in the first half despite a few miscues but failed to open things up in the second half.
The run defense was strong limiting James Robinson to 3.9 yards per carry but the secondary couldn’t find a way to make any plays in coverage. They allowed Gardner Minshew to throw just one incompletion.
Coming back home to Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 2, the Colts will host the Vikings looking to bounce back from their season-opening loss.
