The Indianapolis Colts placed linebacker Matthew Adams on the injured reserve list, the team announced Saturday.
This move doesn’t come as much of a surprise given Adams was ruled out for Sunday’s home game against the New York Jets. Adams suffered an ankle injury during the 28-11 win against the Vikings in Week 2, and head coach Frank Reich told reporters he’d likely miss a few games.
With the new rules to the injured reserve, Adams can return no sooner than Week 6. The Colts have a bye in Week 7 so it will be interesting to see how they play it.
Adams has been working mostly on special teams as one of the core pieces in that phase of the game for Indy. He’s in his third-year and has carved out a role in a very important part of the game.
With Adams out, Zaire Franklin and rookie Jordan Glasgow will try to pick up the slack on special teams.
