Colts open 2020 sitting 7th in USA TODAY power rankings

USA TODAY has Indy in the top 10.

The Indianapolis Colts are on a mission to get back to the playoffs after a busy offseason, and their prospects for the 2020 season are optimistic in the eyes of USA TODAY.

Releasing their power rankings before Week 1, Nate Davis of USA TODAY has the Colts ranked at the No. 7 spot to open the season. That would be the fifth-highest in the AFC.

7. Colts (6): If you’re seeking highest-impact rookie duo in 2020, place a bet on Indy freshmen WR Michael Pittman Jr. and RB Jonathan Taylor.

In the division, the Titans (No. 5) lead the way followed by the Colts (No. 7), Texans (No. 19) and Jaguars (No. 32).

With a wide-open division in 2020, the Colts have a chance to claim the top spot in the AFC South. It won’t be easy getting past the Titans, however, especially after they added edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney to their defensive line this week.

After adding quarterback Philip Rivers in free agency, trading for defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and drafting the aforementioned Pittman Jr. and Taylor, the Colts are set for a bounce-back campaign.

It will be a tough fight for the top spot in the division, but the Colts should be one of the more competitive teams in the league as long they don’t get hampered by injuries too much.
