Colts name Jeff Saturday interim head coach after firing Frank Reich

BREAKING: Colts name Jeff Saturday interim head coach.

The Indianapolis Colts have hired former Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday as interim head coach following the firing of Frank Reich, the team announced Monday.

The decision to fire Reich midseason was a mild surprise, but the move to hire Saturday comes completely out of left field. He will be taking on the role after spending the majority of his post-playing career as an ESPN analyst.

It wasn’t clear exactly who would be taking over as the interim head coach after news of Reich’s dismissal broke, but logically it seemed it would be someone currently in the organization.

Instead, the Colts will be going with Saturday for the remainder of the season.

Saturday doesn’t have any notable coaching experience at the collegiate or NFL levels. He did coach at Hebron Christian Academy in Georgia from 2017-2020, but that’s the extent of his experience.

Saturday, of course, was a fantastic center for the Colts, earning six Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pro first-team selections. However, coaching is an entirely different animal.

The Colts will hold a press conference with Saturday, owner Jim Irsay and general manager Chris Ballard at 6 p.m. ET.
