Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is interviewing for the Los Angeles Chargers vacant head coach role on Tuesday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
It was expected that Eberflus would be interviewing for that gig soon. He already completed his interview with the New York Jets on Sunday, the day after the Colts lost to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card game.
Eberflus also declined to interview for the Houston Texans after they requested to the Colts to interview him for their vacant head coach role.
If there is one job that might be enticing enough for Eberflus to leave this offseason, it is likely the Chargers. With a young and exciting quarterback in Justin Herbert, a decent amount of salary cap space and the No. 13 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, there is a lot of promise in taking this job.
Of course, the Chargers would have to offer it to Eberflus first, but his ability to lead a room and get players to buy into his mentality and his process has made him very popular among Colts players.
This will be something to watch over the next week or so as teams begin hiring their new head coaches, but we now know that Eberflus will interview on Tuesday.
