With defensive end Tyquan Lewis being placed on injured reserve, the Indianapolis Colts had an open roster spot on the 53-man roster and filled it by signing Adam Gotsis from the practice squad.
Gotsis was signed to the Colts practice squad two weeks ago, and with Kwity Paye sidelined during Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Gotsis was elevated to the game-day roster.
Gotsis played 14 snaps in that contest. Although the Colts have him listed as a defensive tackle, by PFF’s charting, 13 of Gotsis snaps came at defensive end. He does provide the Colts with the flexibility to play both roles.
Gotsis role likley depends on how the Colts plan to use Dayo Odeyingbo each week. If Odeyingbo will see more outside snaps, then Gotsis can bolster the defensive tackle depth with DeForest Buckner on injured reserve. If Odeyinbo continues to see snaps inside, Gotsis can provide defensive end depth.
Gotsis joins the Colts’ 53-man roster as an experienced player. He came into the 2024 season having appeared in 121 career games, which included 54 starts. In 2023 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Gotsis played 427 defensive snaps, recording 25 tackles and 20 pressures, according to PFF.
With an there being an opening on the practice squad with Gotsis now on the active roster, the Colts also announced that they signed cornerback Kelvin Joseph.
