Colts make addition at LB ahead of matchup vs. Bengals

The Colts announce an addition at the linebacker position ahead of their preseason finale with the Bengals.

The Indianapolis Colts announced that they made an addition at linebacker ahead of their final preseason, signing Mike Smith Jr.

The 6-1, 231-pound Smith went undrafted this past April out of Baylor. He would appear in five games on defense in 2023, totaling 24 tackles. In coverage, he allowed seven receptions on nine targets, surrendering 14.4 yards per catch.

His season was limited to only five games because of an ACL injury.

The year prior, in 2022, Smith played 12 games at Liberty University, making 86 total tackles, along with an interception and a pass breakup. Over those two seasons, he played a combined 93 special teams snaps.

The Colts have a short week following their preseason matchup with the Cardinals as they travel to Cincinnati for a joint practice on Tuesday before facing the Bengals in the preseason finale on Thursday.

As far as we know right now, there weren’t any injuries at the linebacker position during Saturday’s game, but Cam McGrone did not play after missing last Thursday’s joint practice with the Cardinals.

In addition to signing Smith, the Colts made a few other roster moves, including placing Ryan Coll on IR and waiving/injured Josh Sills. They would also sign center Mike Panasiuk and remove Raekwon Davis from the non-football illness list.
