The Indianapolis Colts announced a pair of practice squad elevations ahead of the Week 5 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Given the current injuries that the Colts are working through, elevating running back Evan Hull and cornerback David Long to the active roster for Sunday’s game shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Following Friday’s practice, the team ruled Jonathan Taylor out as he works through an ankle injury. Presumably, Trey Sermon will be the Colts’ lead back, with Tyler Goodson filling in when needed and potentially in passing situations.
Hull will provide added depth at that position, giving the Colts three running backs available on Sunday. Perhaps he could see some snaps but his role will likely be fairly small.
At cornerback, the Colts continue to deal with more injuries. Not only has Kenny Moore already been ruled out, but the team announced on Saturday that Sam Womack is now questionable with an illness.
With Moore out last week as well, Long was elevated to the active roster against the Steelers. He did not see any defensive snaps and played two on special teams.
If Womack can go, Long will likely fill a similar role. If Womack can’t go, then Long will be the first option off the bench behind Dallis Flowers and Jaylon Jones. For more on Long, click here.
Each practice squad player can be elevated up to three times during the season. This is Hull’s first elevation and Long’s second.
