Colts LB EJ Speed fined for hit in Patriots game

Indianapolis Colts LB EJ Speed was fined for a hit in last week’s game against the New England Patriots.

Indianapolis Colts linebacker EJ Speed was fined for a helmet-to-helmet hit in last week’s game against the New England Patriots.

In the first quarter of Sunday’s game, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye connected with tight end Hunter Henry near the goal line. As Zaire Franklin wrapped Henry up, several other Colts converged to help bring him down, including Speed, who would make helmet-to-helmet contact.

As noted by The Athletic’s James Boyd, Speed was fined $22,511. During the game, Speed was not penalized for this play.

As a unit, the Indianapolis Colts defense would struggle to contain the New England run game as the Patriots totaled 200 yards on the ground.

The tight end duo of Henry and Austin Hooper would also give Indianapolis fits in the passing game, with the two combining for over 100 yards through the air.

On the season, Speed has totaled 108 tackles, according to PFF, seven quarterback pressures, and has one interception with two pass breakups in coverage.
