Colts’ Julian Blackmon has torn Achilles, out for season

Colts S Julian Blackmon tore his Achilles in practice Wednesday and is out for the rest of the season.

Indianapolis Colts safety Julian Blackmon suffered a torn Achilles during practice on Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the 2021 season.

Blackmon popped up on the injury report Wednesday being listed as a limited participant with an Achilles injury. That’s typically never a good sign but since there was no reporting on the injury until the injury report came out, it’s likely that it happened following the portion of practice open to the media.

Through Wednesday night, the Colts were waiting on the final test evaluations on Blackmon’s Achilles.

Blackmon has been a big part of the Colts’ secondary over the last two seasons. A third-round pick in 2020, Blackmon stepped in admirably for Malik Hooker after just three games when the latter went down with a torn Achilles.

During his rookie season, Blackmon appeared in 15 games (14 starts) while recording 42 tackles (35 solo), 3.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions, six passes defended and one forced fumble.

Through six games in 2021, Blackmon has 34 tackles (27 solo), 2.0 tackles for loss, one pass defended and one forced fumble.

With Blackmon out for the year, the Colts will need to make a move for a safety. As it currently stands, the room consists of Khari Willis, George Odum and Andrew Sendejo.
