Colts’ Jonathan Taylor nominated for Rookie of the Week

Jonathan Taylor gets some recognition.

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor appears to be making strides as the team enters the quarter-pole of the season and his performance in Week 13 against the Houston Texans has earned him some recognition.

After totaling 135 scrimmage yards and a receiving touchdown in the 26-20 win over the Texans on Sunday, Taylor has been nominated for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week award for Week 13.

Here are the nominees for the weekly award:

  • Colts RB Jonathan Taylor
  • Jaguars RB James Robinson
  • Rams RB Cam Akers
  • Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa
  • Vikings WR Justin Jefferson

Taylor has the most scrimmage yards among the skill-position rookies this week and because he caught a 39-yard touchdown pass on fourth down, there’s a good chance he comes away with the award.

Taylor has had an up and down season. He was making solid strides leading up to the Week 7 bye but hit a rut in the three games that followed. Then he broke out against the Packers in Week 11 and led the backfield again in Week 13 coming off of the reserve/COVID-19 list as a close contact.

The Colts need to get the ground game consistently churning out yards and Taylor has looked the part of a starter in the last few games that he’s been active.

He gets another juicy matchup against a Raiders defense that is allowing 4.5 yards per carry and 121.1 rushing yards per game.
