Colts’ Jacoby Brissett confident he will start again in the NFL

Jacoby Brissett isn’t lacking any confidence after a down 2019 campaign.

With now two seasons under his belt as a starter, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett has gotten a taste of what that life is like in the NFL. Though he won’t be holding that role in 2020, Brissett is confident he will again one day.

Whether that’s with the Colts or another team has yet to be determined, but the 27-year-old isn’t lacking any credence he will be leading an offense in the league again.

“I still believe in myself. I know I am a starter in this league. I know I can play at a very high level, I did it last year,” Brissett told reporters Friday. “I know I’ll be a starter in this league one day again, so wherever that may be.”

Brissett won’t be the starting quarterback for the Colts in 2020. At least, that isn’t the plan after signing veteran quarterback Philip Rivers to a one-year deal in free agency.

While the N.C. State product will be reverting back to his role as a backup, he knows he must stay ready to step in at a moment’s notice, especially as the league attempts to navigate a season through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“To constantly do what I do. I get better every time I step out on the field and try to get better each and every day,” Brissett said. “I think our role each week is going to change for everybody with what’s going on – and being ready to play more than ever right now. So, that is my approach.”

Now working behind fellow an N.C. state alum in Rivers, Brissett is still keeping his competitive fire. But he also understands he can continue learning from a quarterback going into his 17th season as a starter.

“It’s been fine. I mean, NC State grad, QBU, so it has been fine,” Brissett said of working with Rivers. “The competition is still there. It’s a process and still trying to learn as much as I can. He’s been in the game for a while, so definitely try to soak up some knowledge.”

Brissett has had an interesting journey in the NFL, especially since being traded to Indy. But he’s ready to prove himself again as a starter.

Only time will tell whether that will be with the Colts or another team following the expiration of his contract in 2021.
