The Indianapolis Colts (5-3) aren’t a team that is focusing solely on the upcoming offseason, namely the 2021 NFL draft, as they are still well in the AFC playoff hunt.
But with the second half of the season now here, we will be keeping track of the Colts’ draft position in the first round. They are likely set up to be toward the middle-to-back half of the first round and following the Week 9 games, they hold the No. 17 overall pick.
With the current state of the roster, the Colts can win now. However, we know general manager Chris Ballard is all about the draft process in terms of building both sides of the ball so the scouting department has already begun looking at potential additions for next April.
Even though they hold the No. 9 seed, the Colts can easily move up in the playoff picture if they can go on a run over the next eight weeks. The end of November will give us a clearer picture of how the seeding looks as Indy has matchups with the Titans twice and a home game against the Packers.
The draft isn’t the priority for the Colts but if the season ended this week, the Colts would be holding the No. 17 pick.
