The Indianapolis Colts held a tryout for offensive tackle Roderick Johnson on Tuesday, per the league’s transaction wire.
With starting left tackle Eric Fisher on the reserve/COVID-19 list and still working back from a torn Achilles, Julién Davenport has been looked at as the starting left tackle.
Johnson was an intriguing free-agent target for the Colts as a player who we thought would fit nicely into the offensive line. He re-signed with the Houston Texans, though, until he was released on Aug. 18.
Johnson is a solid run blocker and would be an adequate pass blocker with the help of the Colts’ quick-passing game. He’s played in 29 games while making six starts, spending his time at both right and left tackle.
The Colts could use some offensive tackle depth so this is something to keep an eye on.
