The Indianapolis Colts may have come up short in the wild-card loss to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, but the team showed they are heading in the right direction entering what will be a big offseason for the organization.
Indy showed during a playoff game that they can hang with some of the best teams in the league. Had it not been for some back-breaking penalties, a missed chip shot field goal and a myriad of drops, the Colts may have won this game.
But, the NFL isn’t a league of what could have been. The Colts lost and now they have to regroup to make some pivotal decisions during the offseason.
One of those decisions revolves around the quarterback position. It all may come down to whether Philip Rivers wants to return for another season or call it quits after a Hall of Fame career. The Colts would love to bring him back on another one-year deal, but they could also be looking at a prospect in the draft.
The Colts also have 22 free agents set to hit the market including some big names like T.Y. Hilton, Justin Houston and Denico Autry to go along with the veteran Rivers.
Indy should be in the market to make a splash if they feel the need to given that they are among the leaders again in salary cap space.
It will likely be a busy offseason for the Colts and even though there are some big decisions to make, the team is heading in the right direction.
