Colts’ Frank Reich tests positive for COVID-19

Colts HC Frank Reich tested positive for COVID-19 and is in quarantine.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich tested positive for COVID-19 and is in quarantine, the team announced Monday. Reich is fully vaccinated and is asymptomatic.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard led off his training camp press conference by announcing that Reich tested positive despite being vaccinated. While he is out, the Colts will lean on all three coordinators to run practice until Reich can return.

Ballard said they believe the first day Reich can return to practice is Monday, Aug. 2 after testing positive on Friday.

Ballard also said Reich will still be involved with the team via Zoom while he is in quarantine. Another staff member tested positive as well.

The Colts are one of the teams with the lowest vaccination rate in the NFL, having last been reported as being under 50%, though, owner Jim Irsay said last week they are above that threshold. Ballard said Monday that they have 60% of players wth at least one shot.

As the Colts move through training camp, this will certainly be a storyline to watch as one of the teams with the lower vaccination rates.
