Colts DE Kwity Paye not practicing Wednesday heading into Week 5

Colts DE Kwity Paye was not at practice on Wednesday ahead of the team’s Week 5 matchup with the Jaguars.

Indianapolis Colts defensive end Kwity Paye was not seen at practice Wednesday ahead of the team’s Week 5 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Paye suffered a quad injury late in the Colts’ Week 3 win over the Chicago Bears. He did not practice at all last week and was held out of Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Through three games, Paye had totaled nine pressures, which at the time, were the most on the team. He was also a key contributor to the Colts’ success against the Bears’ running game, setting strong edges to help contain the ball carriers.

The depth of the Colts defensive front was the strength of this team coming into the 2024 season, but early on in the year, that depth is being put to the test.

The Colts began the season with Samson Ebukam on injured reserve. Since then, DeForest Buckner, and most recently, Tyquan Lewis have been added to IR as well.

Without Paye, that leaves the Colts with Dayo Odeyingbo and Laiatu Latu to shoulder the workload at that position group. Both players looked quite good against the Steelers.

The team also has Isaiah Land, who impressed as a pass rusher this past Sunday, Genard Avery, who has been inactive the last two games, and Adam Gotsis, who they signed from the practice squad on Tuesday.

Odeyingbo and Gotsis can both play inside as well if that’s what is needed in certain situations.

We will see how the rest of the week unfolds and if Paye is able to return to practice.
