Colts continue to be linked as ‘most logical spot’ for QB Philip Rivers

Will Indy bring in the veteran QB?

The Indianapolis Colts are hosting the NFL scouting combine on their home turf at Lucas Oil Stadium this week, but some free agency news surrounding quarterback Philip Rivers continues to gain steam.

Potentially addressing the quarterback position this offseason, the Colts have several options both in free agency and the 2020 NFL draft. If they decide to bring in a veteran from the former, Rivers has been the most popular choice for Indy.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network continues to link the Colts as a top fit for Indy without officially saying the team has interest in signing the veteran quarterback. The fit is there, and Rivers would be a nice stop-gap quarterback while the Colts search for their future under center.

“It seems right now the most logical spot would be the Indianapolis Colts, who haven’t ruled out anything, may be in the quarterback market, who have Jacoby Brissett—they have to make some decisions on—and still may draft a quarterback,” Rapoport said on NFL Network. “Right now, that seems like the most logical spot for Rivers and if not there, it’s kind of anyone’s guess where else.”

Rapoport never said anything about the Colts actually having an interest in signing Rivers. Maybe they do. Maybe they don’t. But it should be noted that wasn’t part of the report from Wednesday. Instead, they simply continue to be listed as “the most logical” fit for the veteran.

The Colts have a big decision to make at the quarterback position. They can stick with Brissett and see what they have in 2020. They could sign a veteran like Rivers and then draft a young quarterback. There a few options for them this offseason.

Rivers and the Colts will be a favorite link for the media given the solid fit for both teams, but everything should be taken with a grain of salt until it’s actually reported that Indy has real interest in signing the veteran.
