Colts are odds on favorites to be Dak Prescott’s team in 2021

Could Dak Prescott be a Colt in 2021?

The Indianapolis Colts are going forward in the 2020 season with veteran Philip Rivers, but is there a chance Dak Prescott could be in the mix when the 2021 offseason rolls around?

Prescott, currently running the Dallas Cowboys offense, will be playing on the one-year franchise tag in 2020 after the two sides failed to come to an agreement on a long-term extension. Now, there are talks about the potential of Prescott finding a new home in free agency in 2021.

The Colts were given the highest odds to be the next team for Prescott, holding 6/1 odds, per Bet Online.

As both Rivers and Jacoby Brissett are free agents following the 2020 season, there is a high chance the Colts are in the market for a quarterback for the second offseason in a row. If Prescott hits the market, Indy should have no quarrels about opening up the checkbook.

There is the fact that the Colts drafted Jacob Eason in the fourth round, but the likelihood of him hitting his ceiling is extremely low. Prescott is a proven commodity at the quarterback position and is coming off of a season in which he posted career-best numbers in passing yards (4,902), touchdowns (30) and yards per attempt (8.2).

Given his age, production and talent, Prescott wouldn’t be cheap. But the Colts are expected to have over $45 million come off the books in quarterback money alone. They will have the cap space to make a massive deal happen.

The Colts won’t be focusing on this potential deal until the 2020 season is almost over. They are hoping Rivers can bounce back and bring the team back to the playoffs, but it will be hard for fans to not think about the future if Prescott is available.

We will see what happens if and when Prescott is a free agent in 2021, but the Colts will undoubtedly be in the mix as a potential suitor.
