Colts’ 2023 draft tracker: Top-30 visits, workouts, formal meetings

Tracking the Colts’ reported Top-30 visits, private workouts, and other reported interest ahead of the 2023 NFL draft.

At the end of the month, the Indianapolis Colts will be on the clock in the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, hoping to usher in a new era.

Throughout the offseason, we’ve covered plenty of prospects that have met with the Colts both formally and informally. The phrase “top-30 visit” has been used countless times this offseason and while it can be tedious trying to sift through workouts and visits, there is a reason for the distinction.

Every team is given 30 prospect visits at team facilities each year. Teams can use these on whichever draft-eligible players they want. It could be used on a high-profile prospect or a projected seventh-round selection. The decisions on which prospects visit are entirely up to the team’s discretion.

When prospects are on top-30 visits, they’ll typically have a chance to meet with the coaching staff, front office executives and tour the team facilities. This also is an opportunity for a team to go over a prospect’s game film with them in order to get a better understanding of their football knowledge and how they study the game. The team also spends this time getting to know the prospect off the field to help determine how they would fit in the locker room and community.

Sometimes, a top-30 visit can be medically motivated. The team is allowed to perform a medical evaluation on the prospect if there are any concerns during the pre-draft process.

As for the private workouts, they typically take place at the school of the prospect in question. There is some time for a meeting in the classroom concerned with Xs & Os, but the focus more is on the workout itself.

The Colts have met with several prospects this offseason. Not all of them will get reported. And while we’re going to track the majority of them here, we’d be remiss to not mention the fine work of Horseshoe Huddle’s Zack Hicks and Brent (@FanOfNuance), who put together an extensive prospect tracker this offseason.

We’ll be including top-30 visits, private workouts and formal combine meetings in this article but for more information, we highly recommend checking out their tracker.

We will continue to update this list until the draft arrives at the end of the month.
