Colorado’s top 25 ranking in EA Sports College Football 25 ruffles feathers

Is Colorado’s overall rating in College Football 25 too high, too low or just right?

After making Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter one of the cover players in College Football 25, EA Sports showed some love to Hunter’s team in its team ratings reveal.

While Hunter’s overall rating is still unknown, the developers have released the game’s top 25 offenses, defenses and overall team rankings. With the Buffs boasting the No. 8 offense (89 overall) and the No. 20 defense (84), they’re good for the No. 16 overall team (87). Colorado’s ranking is the second-highest in the Big 12, standing only behind No. 10 Utah at 88 overall. No. 22 Kansas, No. 23 Arizona and No. 24 Oklahoma State were among the nine teams that tied CU’s overall rating of 87.

When EA Sports released its last edition of the game prior to the 2013 season, Colorado received a 79 overall (81 offense, 78 defense).

Social media hasn’t reacted kindly to the list, questioning Colorado’s high placement due to only winning four games last season. Many were also appalled to see teams such as the Tennessee Volunteers and Missouri Tigers left off the list.

While the complaints may have some basis, those in favor of the Buffs’ high ranking have pointed to Hunter, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and the number of quality offseason moves the team has made.

Whether or not Colorado’s rating holds come this fall will have to be seen. Until then, users will enjoy the highly-rated Buffs when the game is released on July 19.
