Quentin Gibson, a recent Colorado signee out of Fort Worth, Texas, was named the 2024 MaxPreps National High School Football Player of the Year on Monday.
Hailing from North Crowley High School, the wide receiver quickly rose to stardom despite a 5-foot-9, 165-pound frame. Those dimensions led to some concern among recruiters and only a three-star billing on 247Sports, but his production was not to be denied.
Gibson finished his senior season with 93 receptions for 2,009 yards (ninth in state history) and a whopping 36 touchdowns (fourth in state history) en route to a Class 6A Division 1 state championship. He won Offensive MVP in the state title game with seven catches for 181 yards and three scores.
Gibson’s electrifying speed and acceleration caught the attention of Colorado, which landed his commitment in late November. Head coach Deion Sanders later compared Gibson to perimeter weapons such as Jimmy Horn Jr. and LaJohntay Wester.
By winning the MaxPreps honor, the speedster joins an illustrious list of previous recipients, including Derrick Henry (2012), Kyler Murray (2013, 2014) and Caleb Downs (2022).
