The No. 4 Colorado women’s basketball team (19-3, 9-2 Pac-12) hosts the Oregon Ducks (11-12, 2-8) on Friday looking to complete a regular season sweep.
The two teams met not too long ago on Jan. 28, a low-scoring game in which the Buffs edged out the Ducks in Eugene, 61-48. It was a defensive battle as neither team shot above 35% from the field. Colorado built an early lead and never looked back despite a decent second-half showing from the Ducks due to their dominant interior presence.
For the Buffs, that game in Eugene jumpstarted their current three-game winning streak. Colorado enters Friday tied with Stanford (20-3, 9-2) for first place in the Pac-12, although the Buffs own the tiebreaker. They’re also ranked No. 4 in the most recent USA TODAY Sports women’s basketball coaches poll.
Oregon, on the other hand, is tied with Arizona State (10-12, 2-8) for last in the Pac-12.
On paper, the Buffs should take care of Oregon on their home floor, but there are no pushovers in the Pac-12. Led by leading scorers Grace Vanslooten (15.4 points per game) and Chance Gray (14.7 PPG), the Ducks outscored Colorado 37-30 in the second half of their first meeting.
As Colorado looks toward Aaronette Vonleh and Quay Miller to again hold down the paint, it will take a team effort for the Buffs to sweep the regular season series over Oregon.
