The Colorado women’s basketball team is one of four squads that will compete in the 2023 Island Tournament at the Paradise Jam Classic, which will be played in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
The Buffaloes should be an early favorite to capture the tournament title after their Sweet 16 run in last season’s NCAA Tournament. North Carolina State was also a March Madness team and will be joining the Buffs in the Virgin Islands. The other two teams in the tournament, Cincinnati and Kentucky, finished below .500 in 2022-23.
Colorado opens against Cincinnati on Nov. 23 before facing Kentucky on Nov. 24 and then NC State the following day.
Head coach JR Payne had this to say about her team competing in the Paradise Jam:
“We are incredibly excited to have our team participate in a prestigious tournament like the Paradise Jam,” head coach JR Payne said in a press release. “Our team is excited to be able to play such high-caliber teams and will be a great overall experience to be in the US Virgin Islands during Thanksgiving week.”
ESPN’s family of networks is set to broadcast the tournament.
