Colorado wide receiver undergoes surgery ahead of season opener

One of Colorado’s new wide receivers underwent surgery ahead of Thursday’s season opener

Ahead of his first season with the Buffs, incoming Colorado football transfer Cordale Russell posted a picture of himself preparing for surgery on Tuesday morning.

The nature of Russell’s injury is unknown, but one would expect the former TCU wide receiver to miss a considerable amount of time. Russell committed to Colorado in December as one of head coach Deion Sanders’ first offseason transfer portal acquisitions.

Russell was practicing as recently as last week before suffering the undisclosed injury.

During Russell’s lone season with the Horned Frogs in 2023, he played in three games without recording a reception. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound redshirt freshman was a class of 2023 four-star prospect (247Sports composite) out of Mesquite, Texas.

Fortunately for the Buffs, wide receiver remains arguably their deepest position group. However, Russell’s injury could potentially open up more opportunities for true freshmen Drelon Miller and Kam Mikell.
