The Aztecs took a big hit from UNLV, yet still remain the only Top 25 team to register just a single regular season loss.
San Diego, CA- The Mesa was rocked on on Saturday, February 23rd. UNLV walked into the arena where they had not won a game in over six years and overpowered the last remaining undefeated NCAA team on their own home court.
All of this took place right after the Aztecs unveiled their Mountain West Regular Season Championship banner. Was it Karma? Doubtful.
Nonetheless, the Aztecs (26-1, 15-1 MWC) clinched the outright regular-season conference title on February 11th, yet there is still work to be done.
Getting punched in the face by an underdog may be the kind of wake-up call the Aztecs could use to whip further into tournament-ready mode. While the Aztecs had a lot of swagger, this may have served to sharpen their focus.
This could be a rough night for Colorado State, a potential unwitting recipient of the Aztecs’ recent furor.
