Colorado State is coming off a solid 32-14 home win against San Jose State. The Rams controlled the contest throughout and outgained the Spartans, 449 yards to 267. Despite playing a pair of Power-5 teams thus far (Vanderbilt, Iowa), CSU ranks 36th in the nation in total defense (328.8 yards per game).

The Lobos have dropped four straight after starting the season 2-0. New Mexico has had all kinds of problems on offense, where it ranks 125th in total yards (282.7 per game) and 128th in points (15.2 per game). Louisiana-Monroe has been worse than UNM in converting on third downs (26.1%).

Colorado State at New Mexico odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Colorado State 31, New Mexico 21

Money line

In a series that dates back to 1935, its been all-CSU of late. The Rams have won 10 straight games against the Lobos. The last meeting was two years back, and Colorado State won that one, 35-21.

For 2021, this is not the game for the struggling New Mexico offense to get right. The CSU defense creates havoc at the line of scrimmage, and that figures to have the Lobos behind the chains and on their heels in this one.

Betting Colorado State (-420) is too chalky to suggest – so PASS.

Against the spread

The Rams could easily control this game on the scoreboard, in the trenches, and in the hearts and minds of competitors on both sides and still win by a margin of 10-to-14 points. The strengths and weaknesses don’t figure to make for a three-score win with enough probability to make use of this spread. AVOID.

Over/Under

This series has had one listed total under-50 in the last 10 meetings. With a bit of play to a beleaguered Lobos offense but also to CSU’s ability to get ahead and stay ahead, BACK THE OVER 44.5 (-120).
