Rockies at Astros: Projected starting pitchers

RHP Antonio Senzatela at RHP Zack Greinke

Senzatela’s 2020 stats: 4 starts, 3-0, 3.91 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 18:5 K:BB in 23 IP

  • Last start: Aug. 12, No decision — 6 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 0 BB, 4 K vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Senzatela holds a 5.40 ERA for his career at home, and 5.06 on the road. For this year’s small sample, he has a 3.27 ERA in two road outings, and 4.50 rate at Coors Field over two appearances.
  • Senzatela has experienced a renaissance of sorts, though, developing a smoother windup; improving his conditioning; and fine-tuning his breaking pitches. He may be turning a corner; this will be a major test.

Greinke’s 2020 stats: 4 GS, 1-0, 2.53 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 18:4 K:BB in 21 1/3 IP

  • Last start: Aug. 12, W — 6 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 7 K
  • Career at Minute Maid Park: 3.46 ERA, 69 K, 15 BB in 83 1/3 IP

Prediction

Astros 5, Rockies 2

Greinke deserves ample confidence in Houston.

Moneyline (ML)

  • Rockies (+175)
  • Astros (-200)

As much as I believe in the changes made by Senzatela, Greinke is a tough draw in Houston. Still, the moneyline offers little to no shot at a productive bet. PASS.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

  • Rockies +1.5 (-121)
  • Astros -1.5 (+100)

The Astros are closer to 100 than they were Monday, but Greinke being on the mound is a fine time to seize any double-up opportunity for his squad. BET ASTROS -1.5 (+100).

New to sports betting? A winning $10 bet on the Astros’ run line would yield a profit of $10 if they win by 2 or more runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

  • Over 9 (-110)
  • Under 9 (-110)

I don’t like either equally juiced part of the Over/Under. PASS.

As for alternatives, the UNDER 7.5 (+140) has some allure, as I predicted a total of seven runs.
