Colorado named Big 12’s top all-time program by The Oklahoman sports writer

Despite recent struggles, Colorado owns a strong case to be the Big 12’s top all-time football program

Colorado may not be leading many preseason power rankings at the moment, but when looking at the Big 12’s all-time history, the Buffs are undoubtedly an upper-echelon program.

With the Big 12 entering another new era this fall, The Oklahoman sports writer Joe Mussatto ranked the conference’s best all-time football programs and Colorado topped his list. Mussatto pointed to the fact that CU leads current Big 12 teams in consensus All-Americans (32), NFL draft picks (276) and weeks ranked in the AP Poll (308).

Surprisingly, the Buffs also have the Big 12’s most recent national championship (1990) with the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns now in the SEC.

Arizona State, which owns the Big 12’s top all-time winning percentage at .599, and West Virginia tied for the second spot in The Oklahoman’s power ranking. TCU (No. 4) and Oklahoma State (No. 5) rounded out the top tier.
