Earlier this month, the Colorado Buffaloes seemed to be set at inside linebacker with LaVonta Bentley and Trevor Woods returning from last season’s defense. However, linebackers coach Andre’ Hart says two other players are pushing to earn starting roles.
Hart met with the media on Tuesday and was asked about Woods and Bentley lining up as the starting duo. He named former Jackson State transfer Jeremiah Brown and Charlotte 49ers transfer Nikhai Hill-Green as players “making a really big push.”
Brown played in all 12 games last season and registered 11 tackles. Hill-Green played in 11 games for Charlotte with seven starts and was second on the team with 73 total tackles.
Here’s what Coach Hart had to say about the competition at linebacker:
“Early in the season I thought it would be (Woods and Bentley), and now, Nikhai (Hill-Green) and Jeremiah Brown are making a really big push,” Hart said. “We’ve been mixing these guys up. I always talk about competition keeping them up at night, well now they keeping me up at night because I’m trying to think who’s going to be that guy for me. They’ve been playing really well. I’m excited to see who’s going to come out on top. But I feel good with any four of those guys in.”
I asked if LaVonta Bentley and Trevor Woods are still looking to be their starters.
